Southwark Emery 600k Universal Testing Machine

The Southwark Emery universal testing machine is the largest tension-compression testing machine of the Carleton Laboratory. The machine’s 20 ft (6 m) vertical span, 6 ft (1.8 m) crosshead width, as well as movable top and bottom crossheads make it a versatile tester for many specialty testing applications. The Satec Digital controller allows the machine to perform low-cycle fatigue tests as well. The S-E UTM is used for a variety of research, teaching, and commercial testing applications, ranging from the testing of concrete cylinders, masonry prisms, manhole covers, to full-scale scaffolding and shoring systems.

Instron 1500HDX Universal Testing Machine

The Instron 1500HDX 300k UTM is a load and displacement controlled hydraulic testing machine; the largest machine of this type produced by Instron’s Industrial Products Group. The Bluehill 3 control system allows this machine to fulfill a wide array of duties, ranging from undergraduate and graduate teaching, independent research, doctoral research, to high-volume testing of medium to large-sized high-strength samples. The 1500DX, along with its lower-capacity neighbor, the 600DX, is equipped with a presentation LCD, which allows the machine to display live results of ongoing testing.

The system is designed with dual test spaces for tension, compression, bend, shear, and flexure testing on high strength materials. The open-face crosshead allows for fast and efficient testing of large volumes of tension specimens such as bolts, rebars, and couplers.

The Instron 5984 30k UTM is a PC-based load and displacement controlled electromechanical testing machine. The state-of-the art control platform Bluehill 3 allows the operator to define, program, and perform both standardized (e.g. ASTM, ANSI, etc.) as well as novel tests. The versatile program environment is tailored to support databasing and auto-reporting of simple as well as highly complex, repetitive testing campaigns.

The machine is capable of both tension and compression loading and is equipped with two testing bays. The bay above the moving crosshead is equipped with automatic pneumatic tension grips, tailored to provide controlled, constant gripping pressures and ergonomics, especially in testing projects with a high sample count. MTS 220k Dynamic Universal Testing Machine

The MTS 100 ton universal testing machine boasts a computerized servo-controller that allows the machine to be used in a variety of testing applications. The system may be used for medium-cycle fatigue testing, load control, strain control, and displacement control. The open architecture of the state of the art MTS controller allows the machine to follow complex logic-driven test procedures. The hydraulicly driven crosshead allows the machine to be reconfigured for various tests within minutes.

The multi-manifold control system allows a 110 kip (500 kN) secondary actuator to be used independently as well as in conjunction with the primary actuator. The secondary actuator can be mounted to the test floor of the laboratory as well as to a reaction frame for transverse/biaxial loading of specimens in the main MTS load frame.
