Shared Equipment

The Carleton Laboratory actively supports the research mission of Columbia Engineering by sharing with the School a broad portfolio of testing machinery. We specialize in traditional material strength testing, structural health monitoring and corrosion processes, cementitious materials, geotechnical centrifuge testing, and fluid transport mechanics.

The staff of the Carleton Lab frequently make major contributions to the research carried out by our users. They can have an important scientific role through the planning and realization of experiments, through the analysis and interpretation of data, or through a full collaboration in the research. When this occurs, the staff person should be included as a co-author on papers.

The links below provide an overview of shared equipment available to researchers in Columbia Engineering. Contact and scheduling information is provided on the respective equipment pages.

Carleton Laboratory also operates a fully outfitted machine shop for heavy metal (non-ferrous and ferrous) machining. The machine shop will accept work on a case by case basis from both interdepartmental and external (other Schools of Columbia University) customers.
