Liming Li worked as a research engineer for Nippon Koei, the top consulting firm in Japan before joining in Columbia University. He has 20 more years practical engineering experience in soil structure analysis, centrifuge modeling for geotechnical engineering problems, laboratory and field testing and engineering management. His major research interests and expertise are in experimental mechanics, material testing and centrifuge modeling.
He obtained his Ph.D. from Osaka City University, Japan in 1996, and his doctoral research focused on the experimental investigation of static and dynamic interaction of soil and structures.
He is a voting member of ASTM technical committees D-18 and F-17, member of Japanese Geotechnical Engineering and Japan Society of Civil Engineers. He is also serving as an active paper reviewer for Geotechnical Testing Journal and Journal of Testing and Evaluation of ASTM, Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering of ASCE, Journals of Transportation Infrastructure Geotechnology and Natural Hazards of Springer, and prestigious international conferences in the related engineering fields. He has over 100 publications in areas of his research interests.
